The Manassas Volunteer Fire Company was the first volunteer Fire Company in Prince William County and is currently one of the busiest, most dedicated volunteer Fire Companies in the Northern Virginia area. There is NO better place to get the experience you want and need than right here at MVFC.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Duty Shifts: One-14 hour Weeknight shift per week (5pm-7am), and One-24 hour weekend shift (7am-7am) per month is required. (Accommodations are available upon request)
- Monthly Company meetings are held on the last Tuesday of EVERY month (7pm). Interested applicants are encouraged to attend
- Interested applicants should come by the station (after 5:00pm weekdays, 8:00am weekends) and introduce yourself to the duty crews, This is HIGHLY recommended. This way when you come up to be voted on, members know who you are, and who they are voting on.
- Please dress appropriately every time you visit. Remember, first impressions are everything
- Free training provided: All firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical training is provided
- Duty uniforms and equipment are provided to you

As a MVFC firefighter you will have the opportunity to earn your EMT certification as we take the engine to assist on many of the medical calls in the city and surrounding areas. Our primary mission though is fire suppression. If you would prefer to ride on an EMS unit there are also opportunities at our sister station, The Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad. Auxiliary Applicant Information
- Must be at least 14 years of age or older to join.
- Complete an application and return it to the firehouse
- Monthly Company meetings are held on the last Tuesday of EVERY month (7pm). Interested applicants are encouraged to attend.
- Monthly Auxiliary meetings are held on the second Monday of EVERY month (6:30pm).

Duties of the Auxiliary
- Bingo/Kitchen Shifts: Auxiliary members are encouraged to support Bingo events. Bingo is held every Saturday night and shifts vary depending on the support being provided. Bingo/Kitchen shifts are on an every four week schedule
- Special Event Shifts: Auxiliary members are encouraged to support Fire Company events as much as possible. These events allow the Company to interact with the community in which we serve and financially support the firehouse
- Additional support: Grant Writers, Human Resource leads, and many other opportunities are available and desired. Contact a member to see how your expertise can best serve the Company

This depends on what certifications you have (free training is provided), the availability of classes and how motivated you are. Typical time from application to being cleared to ride on your own (minimum staffing) can range from 6 months to 2 years.
All applicants regardless of training will be taken on as probationary members for 6 months or until training is complete.
We are always looking for firefighters to staff the engine however we also have a need for motivated individuals to step up and become Drivers, Lieutenants, Captains and even Chief.
These leadership roles require skill, motivation, and training, all of our officers are also certified EMT's in addition to being fully qualified firefighters.
The basic courses are listed below and will all be covered during a standard fire academy however you will occasionally see individual courses offered and these will be posted as soon as they become available. The average length of time for a full academy class is about 4 months.
Hazmat Operations, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, RIT (Rapid Intervention Team), and Mayday as well as and intro to airport firefighting class due to the City having it's own airport.
Yes! The most important thing to do is show up to the fire station as often as you can to work with the duty crews. This way you will get to know who you are riding with and they can get to know you. As well as it's the best way to learn about the apparatus and tools we use.
There are also some prerequisites courses that can be taken care of. First being the NIMS courses (100, 200, 700, 800) these can take anywhere from a few days to over a few weeks depending on how much time you have available, most are only a few hours in length.
Steps to becoming a MVFC firefighter:
1. The first and most important step is to apply by filling out an Application!
2. After you application is received our HR team will reach out to you to schedule an interview.
3. Once the interview is done with you'll need to register and setup a time to have your fingerprints processed for a background check.
4. After a favorable result from the background check you will considered an applicant / probationary member for the next 6 months while you work towards becoming an basic firefighter. This will include:
5. Upon successful completion of your physical and prior to attending the academy you will be issued a set of bunker gear.
6. When the both the 6 month probationary period is over and you have completed all necessary training you will be voted on as a full member of the fire company and be eligible for all privileges and benefits that come with that.
